Usually you can start at 14 days. Take care of your joints (knees and ankles) when exercising, if you have any problems or do not want to put a lot of pressure on your joints, we recommend stationary cycling, water aerobics or walking underwater (remember to wait 10 days after surgery to submerge yourself in water).
  • Would it improve my type 2 diabetes?
Metabolic surgery has been shown to improve glucose homeostasis more effectively than any other pharmaceutical or behavioral intervention. ((Statements endorsed by the American Diabetes Association (American Diabetes Association))
  • Can I get pregnant after a bariatric procedure?
Yes. After the Sleeve and the Gastric Band you can get pregnant immediately but it is recommended to wait until you reach your ideal weight. After Gastric Bypass it is necessary to wait 18 months due to nutrient deficiency during weight loss. Studies have compared pregnancies of bariatric patients with those of people affected by obesity; bariatric patients have a lower rate of preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and miscarriages. Children of bariatric patients are also less likely to be overweight or underweight at birth.

Some patients temporarily lose some hair between the sixth and ninth month after the Bypass procedure. In your post-operative visits with Dr. Lizcelly, a specialist in bariatric nutrition, adjustments are made to your protein, vitamin and mineral intake to prevent hair loss. With weight loss, it is very likely that you will stop taking medications for obesity-related diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. It is important to monitor your development to make the corresponding changes.
  • Can I reach my Goal Weight with just diet and exercise?
Yes, but it's hard for severely obese people to be successful with diet and exercise. When the diet is prolonged, the body makes biological modifications by reducing metabolism, increasing caloric absorption and hunger. When the diet is "broken" other changes occur that help obesity increase. Slower metabolism, greater predisposition to fat accumulation and deterioration in the fat burning process are some of these changes. The Panel of Experts of the National Institutes of Health (USA) recognize that “long-term” weight loss for people suffering from severe obesity is only possible through bariatric surgery. According to scientific studies, only 5% of people who are on a diet manage to maintain long-term weight loss (3 to 5 years). [1][2] Compared to 5% of diets, 90% of bariatric patients maintain a loss of more than 50% of excess weight in the long term. [3] [1] Grodstein, Levine, Spencer, Colditz, Stampfer, 1996.
