The Gastric BandIt is an adjustable gastric band that is placed around the upper part of the stomach. Similar to putting a belt around the stomach.
On the inside of the band there is a balloon that is in contact with the stomach.
This balloon is connected to a hose that at its other end has a port (the size and shape of a $1 peso coin) that is located under the skin.
How does the Gastric Band work?
By means of a special syringe, saline solution can be injected or extracted into the port. The liquid passes through the hose and inflates or deflates the balloon.
When inflated it squeezes the stomach and decreases the flow of food from the top to the bottom of the stomach.
This causes the feeling of being full and you consume fewer calories throughout the day.
Advantages
-
It is reversible and adjustable.
-
It is a low complexity procedure.
-
Recovery of only 3 days.
-
90% reduction in diabetic mortality.
-
50% reduction in cardiac mortality.
*A slower process that requires monitoring, diet and effort.
*You have to follow a post-operative diet and follow-up visits.
Important points
1. That the band is adjustable. There are still NON-adjustable bands that have a high rate of complications and we do not recommend them.
2. Approved by COFEPRIS and the FDA, entities in charge of safeguarding health in Mexico and the United States.
In fact, there are only two approved bands in the United States, the Lap-Band by ALLERGAN (formerly INAMED) and the Realize by J&J. More information.
Dr. Rumbaut has trained more than 150 Surgeons in the gastric band technique and is a member of the "Medical Advisory Committee for Bioenterics® LAP-BAND®System” and “Expert Health Consultant for INAMED Health”.

Gastric Band with Double Fixation- Dr. Rumbaut™
Dr. Rumbaut makes a few changes to the conventional gastric banding technique including a double suture that fixes the band and reduces the incidence of banding out of position and erosions.
LIFE CHANGES
This technique requires more effort on the part of the person; the band does not work with soft foods with a high caloric content (chocolates, ice cream, etc.).
